Josh Linam is a professional dog trainer committed to helping owners and their canine companions have an enjoyable, relaxed life together. He finds it immensely rewarding to witness the profound changes in a dog’s behavior and the subsequent growth in the relationship between owners and their companions.
His journey into dog training started just over 6 years ago with his rescue dog, Ajax. A powerful Rottweiler/GSD mix— who was 60 lbs by 6 months— quickly became a nightmare to walk due to his extreme leash reactivity. The experience was anxiety provoking for everyone involved. Committed to providing the best life possible for Ajax, Josh started to explore behavior principles and training philosophies. The journey was truly an evolution for Josh as an individual and a dog owner. At 100 lbs, Ajax is now one of the easiest dogs to walk alongside his two-year old son.
When Josh is not dog training, you can find him in the mountains hiking or mountain biking. He loves to travel with his wife, Hattie, and son, Jonas, and he is always looking for new adventures. In addition to their dog, Ajax, they also have two feline friends, Jiminey and Gapetto. Josh grew up in Tucson, but just recently moved back from Bend, OR. Though he was sad to say goodbye to the nearby ski mountain, he’s glad to be back home with the great weather and Mexican food.
I had a really good experience working with Josh and Scott on my dog Cooper's extreme reactivity to other dogs. They were both very professional, patient, and knowledgeable. Josh walked me through how to properly utilize the e-collar to provide effective feedback to Cooper to start altering his response to the dogs we encounter on our walks. Both the sessions and the techniques on how to use the tool has been amazingly helpful for Cooper. Now after about a couple of months of consistent training, Cooper has improved significantly and can now actually walk by other dogs and stay calm. I highly recommend Chill Out Dog Training!
We found Chill Out Dog Training online and could not be happier with our choice to pursue training for our dog with them. As lab owners, we struggled managing our high energy and overly excited rescue dog, Maya, on walks and while greeting people. Josh was great to work with. He was patient with Maya as well as with us, while we tried to figure out the best techniques and tools to use for Maya. After the training Maya received and persistence, she now walks obediently on a leash and responds to the tools we were provided when people come over. With a few more issues to work out with Maya, without question we plan to continue to use Chill Out Dog Training!
Josh gave us the foundation that allowed us to learn how to effectively communicate with our Brucie Boy! Once we understood "canine language", things quickly changed for the better. Bruce was a rescue that came with some aggression towards other dogs. He was around age 2, so it's unknown what his previous life consisted of. He was quite anxious, eager to please, somewhat dominant (though very insecure), and generally out of control as far as social etiquette goes. Josh gave us solid strategies that worked almost immediately. His intuitive, kind nature, combined with his professionalism makes him a joy to interact with. It was clear from the moment I spoke to Josh that he was who we were looking for! His amazing and effective strategies made it possible for us to not only keep Bruce, but to truly love and enjoy him! Our pack is now complete, happy, and balanced---Thanks to Josh and Chill Out Dog Training.
