Professional dog trainers Scott Ross, Cameron Nuechterlein, Josh Linam, and director of operations, Miko Otte, make up the Chill Out Dog Training’s Denver Team.
Each team member is dedicated to providing valuable and effective results to their Denver clients and canines.
Owner and lead trainer, Scott Ross developed the idea for Chill Out Dog after his own experience in training and decided to share his passion with dog owners across the Denver area. After establishing Chill Out Dog Training, Scott began to grow his clientele based on positive results and referrals. Josh Linam and Cameron Nuechterlein joined the team after developing their own training strategies and learning from Scott’s Chill Out Dog methodology.
The training process for each trainer was a rigorous, multi-level, and hands-on experience in order to develop highly trained individuals that fulfill Chill Out Dog’s guarantee. A passion for transformative results and owner empowerment is shared with each member of the team. Most importantly Scott has created a team of qualified individuals that consider themselves friends.
Owner & Lead Trainer
Scott Ross is the owner and head trainer of Chill Out Dog Training. With over 5 years of hands-on training experience, he has worked with owners and their dogs to address an array of behavior challenges.
Scott’s journey into the world of dog behavior therapy began with his own German Shepherd mix, Gus, who had uncontrollable, severe aggression towards dogs. Scott had to find a solution or totally change his expectations of having an includable social dog. Faced with a stark decision, Scott decided to try a new mode of training that included three key elements: walk before you run, high behavior expectations, valuable consequences for all types of choices.
Fascinated by the results achieved, Scott took opportunities to work with friends and family dogs and saw that the methodology applied was universal. Scott began to conceive of a new type of training company that could help serious behavior cases quickly though direct coaching, his three element method, and owner empowerment.
Outside of work Scott can be found mastering the art of the grill, battle royaling with buddies on Xbox, up on the slopes practicing moguls, or he might be at home reading the latest Brandon Sanderson novel.
Owner & Director Of Operations
Josh Linam is a professional dog trainer committed to helping owners and their canine companions have an enjoyable, relaxed life together. He finds it immensely rewarding to witness the profound changes in a dog’s behavior and the subsequent growth in the relationship between owners and their companions.
Josh’s journey to dog training started just over 6 years ago with his rescue dog, Ajax. This powerful Rottweiler/GSD mix— who was 60 lbs by 6 months— quickly became a nightmare to walk due to his extreme leash reactivity. The experience was anxiety-provoking for everyone involved. Committed to providing the best life possible for Ajax, Josh started to explore behavior principles and training philosophies. The journey was truly an evolution for Josh as an individual and a dog owner. At 100 lbs, Ajax is now one of the easiest dogs to walk alongside his two-year-old son.
When Josh is not dog training, you can find him hiking, mountain biking, and skiing. He loves to travel with his wife, Hattie, and son, Jonas, and he is always looking for new adventures. In addition to their dog, Ajax, they also have two feline friends, Jiminy and Gepetto. Josh is originally from Arizona but recently lived in Bend, OR before returning to Tucson where he began professional dog training. Josh and the entire Linam family are excited to live in Denver, the Mile High City, where they can explore the amazing city and nearby mountains.
Colorado native and all-around animal lover, Cameron Nuechterlein, is excited to share strategies he developed during his own personal journey with dog training. He apprenticed as an associate trainer with Chill Out Dog Training for over a year, and he specializes in aggression and leash reactivity. He finds it rewarding to visibly witness transformative results that are possible with the Chill Out Dog Training approach.
Cameron has always loved working with animals and even worked at an exotic animal store. However, his journey into dog training began when he adopted his dog, Bourbon. Bourbon demonstrated extreme food reactivity after he joined Cameron’s family. In fact, this was discovered when Bourbon bit his owner while attempting to take away his bone. Of course, this experience was frightening to both dog and owner. Cameron wanted everyone to feel safe around Bourbon as well as alleviate Bourbon’s anxiety surrounding food. After narrowing down the root cause of Bourbon’s aggression, Cameron was able to utilize various training techniques to build trust and alleviate anxiety. Through this difficult experience, Cameron learned the skills to help Bourbon build trust and “chill out.” Cameron trained with the owner of Chill Out Dog Training, Scott Ross, and developed effective and transformative skills that provide visible results. Now Bourbon is thriving alongside his owner and is a very trustworthy companion.
When Cameron is not dog training he enjoys the beautiful outdoors of Colorado. Much of Cameron’s time is spent hiking, camping, and soaking up nature. Not only is Cameron an outdoorsman, but Cameron can also be found crafting delicious cuisine. Cameron has an affinity for the culinary arts and the Denver team of dog trainers has enjoyed his delicious delicacies.
Scott is a great trainer! He helped so much with the tricky issue of my dog's separation anxiety, which is a really tough behavior to tackle. I like that Scott tackles issues from a behaviorist's standpoint and really wants you to understand why a dog exhibits a certain behavior instead of just trying to correct it without thinking about the triggers and the psychology. Scott also came to my workplace for a fabulous dog training presentation with live demonstrations--could not recommend him enough!
Josh and the rest of the team at Chill Out are awesome! In just the first session, they helped give us the tools and education to correct the worst part of our Pittie boy Chance's leash reactivity. Normally, we'd have to give other dogs a wide berth (like 10 yards+) just to make sure our boy didn't get too anxious. Literally after an hour of working with them and utilizing the e-collar, Chance is able to pass other dogs on the path with no reactivity. It's helped with the little bit of leash-pulling behavior he had as well. Can't recommend these guys highly enough!
We found Chill Out Dog Training online and could not be happier with our choice to pursue training for our dog with them. As lab owners, we struggled managing our high energy and overly excited rescue dog, Maya, on walks and while greeting people. Josh was great to work with. He was patient with Maya as well as with us, while we tried to figure out the best techniques and tools to use for Maya. After the training Maya received and persistence, she now walks obediently on a leash and responds to the tools we were provided when people come over. With a few more issues to work out with Maya, without question we plan to continue to use Chill Out Dog Training!
Josh was amazing!! My pup Brady tends to pull excessively, and as he is 75 pounds, it can become a bit out of my control. He also tends to get distracted, overly excited and jumps on people. With only one session, Josh was able to provide me with some new tools to use with Brady that he now feels like a completely different dog. Walking at my side! I can't explain how much of a relief it is to feel and be in control. Thank you again!
I have a very "high-spirited, focused, determined, strong-willed" cairn terrier puppy. With each session, "Dexter's" behavior would improve. Our last session focused on leash walking. I am astounded by the dramatic change just after one session. The next time I took Dexter out on my own I could not believe how well behaved he was. I would say he did a "160" (not quite a 180, but dam close). Scott is knowledgeable, calm, communicates with ease, professional and reliable. I highly recommend Chill Out Dog.
Scott and Cam were super helpful when it came to training our dog! The main problems we were having included barking and lunging on walks and each problem was addressed during our session with them. They gave us a lot of information and even showed us how to correct certain problems that we didn't know how to correct in the past. I've already seen so much improvement in my dog's behavior and it's only been a couple of days. I highly recommend working with them for any dog training needs you have!
